Lena Headey Predicts Cersei Lannister?s Fate in Game of Thrones Season 7

By on

Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) marked the Game of Thrones season 6 finale ?The Winds of Winter? with a bang, literally.

The sinister queen, who has had her share of heartbreaks and humiliation in Season 6, blew up her foes to smithereens. Lighting up the barrels of dangerous Wildfire that were stashed beneath the Great Sept of Baelor, she killed off her enemies in one go?Margaery Tyrell, Loras Tyrell, Mace Tyrell, The High Sparrow, and rest of the Faith militant.

But her victory was fleeting. Just moments after learning about his wife?s brutal death, Cersei?s only living son, King Tommen Lannister, jumped to his death. Due to the shocking turn of events, the Lannister matriarch found herself sitting on the Iron Throne as the Queen of Westeros at the end of the episode.

If you ask Lena Headey about Cersei Lannister?s fate, she thinks that Cersei?s reign would be short-lived. In her interview with Entertainment Weekly, the brilliant British actress admits that Cersei would not last very long as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

?No. Surely not! Not a chance in hell. It?s a moment of punctuation in the madness.?

Lena acknowledges the fact that if Cersei ascended to the throne in a grand way, she?d step down from it in a grand fashion as well. But who does she think would put an end to her reign?

?I think it has to be Arya or Tyrion. No one would relish her death as much as he would.? She adds that maybe in her dying moment, she and Tyrion could do something surprising and unusual. ?Maybe we could have a dying kiss or something.?

When she first read the script of ?The Winds of Winter? Lena couldn?t believe that Cersei would be sitting on the Iron Throne.

?I couldn?t believe it, obviously. I was really shocked. I read it like nine times, like, ?You?re joking!? Then I?m left to wonder who?s going to take her down. She may only be there for a second. You do think, ?What the f? comes next?? Then we start again to play that game we all play each season, ?Who?s going to be on the Iron Throne next???

Lena doesn?t really know what Cersei is in for now that Daenerys Targaryan, together with the Tyrells, Martells, the Dothraki, the Unsullied, The Greyjoys, Varys, Tyrion, and her three dragons, are on their way to Westeros. But she knows that there would be one hell of a battle in Season 7.

?I got goosebumps reading, ?The ships are coming.? They keep teasing us every season and I don?t know what?s going to happen because nobody tells you anything. I have to assume there?s going to be one helluva battle. Who knows? It?s such a mystery.?

Lena Headey is also excited about the prospect of Cersei seeing Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) again. The last time they saw each other was during the Purple Wedding, where King Joffrey Baratheon died of poisoning.

?I?m as excited as anyone to get Cersei and Tyrion back together. It just works. Those two characters are so interesting because there?s so much hate, yet slight respect too. They?d kill each other if ever given the chance.?

Fans would have to wait for one year before all these predictions and fan theories to come true. For now, let Queen Cersei Lannister have her shining moment.
