The League of Legends World Championship 2016, or just ?Worlds? to the game?s fans, will take place for a whole month, from September 29 to October 29. Worlds will be set in big event stadiums such as Staples Center and Madison Square Garden for the latter parts of the tournament. A major gameplay patch will be released before the event, which will be part of the upcoming tournament?s game build. Here?s what you need to know about the upcoming Worlds 2016.
According to the League of Legends World Championship 2016?s official site, the tournaments will take place in the game?s home country, North America. Last year, the 2015 Worlds took place in Europe, while 2014 Worlds was in South Korea. It was last 2013 when the League of Legends World Championship took place in North America as well. Since then, much has changed in the competitive League of Legends scene as national teams don?t have members strictly from their same country of origin. Some teams let go of some of their members while some active members stepped down due to the changes in the game?s meta.
As for gameplay, the new Cannon minion wave and Turret First Blood system currently implemented on the PBE will make it in the upcoming world tournament?s game build. According to Riot?s Scarizard on the official League of Legends forums, these changes are aimed to discourage consistent trades of ?top for bottom towers? in high level play and competitive matches. Riot has added a gold bonus for the team that destroys the first tower in the game. Additionally, Riot added some unique changes to Summoner?s Rift as it has better towers than the other lanes, which could prevent the ?Top-Bottom Tower Trading? tactic.
Additionally, the rotating Cannon Minion wave may also add spice or even extend the laning phase in the upcoming League of Legends World Championship 2016 matches. A loss of a Cannon minion somehow hurts the gold income of the players in the early game and makes them more valuable in early game pushes. Missing to kill or forcing the other team to miss killing one of these special minions may now be a noteworthy move in competitive play.
Scarizard also mentioned that the competitive players will have to adapt their playstyles to the changes in just two months, at least. Despite this, fans will surely see fresh strategies from the pro players as their usual tactics may not work with the changes coming in the game. For now, we can only look out for the teams that?ll qualify this upcoming League of Legends World Championship 2016.
