Law & Order SVU Season 18 is just right around the corner so turn back if you don?t want some minor spoilers. We will discuss the release date, the possible cast changes and the premiere plot. There will also be a subtle showrunner change but it would not affect the show in a major way.
First, Rick Eid will take over the reins from producer Warren Leight. This is according to a report by Variety in March. Eid signed a two-year deal and we expect some, not really major, changes to be made. Why? If you can remember, Eid has also been the co-executive producer of the Law and Order flagship series from 2005 to 2007. He served as the supervising producer of Law & Order: Trial By Jury. He also wrote for the two series.
Eid told Entertainment Weekly that there will be no major changes to the successful series. He adds that their concern is more of continuing the telling of great stories while adding in the spirit of the times. He also adds that there will be new writers and things will change organically.
The first episode of Law & Order: SVU Season 18 will have the team mourning the death of Mike Dodds (Andy Karl). Eid added that they will pick up from the Season 17 finale. It will be set a month or so but not really time-specific.
The Special Victims Unit took a hit losing Dodds. This, though, creates a spot or maybe more for new possible members to fill. In his interview, Eid revealed that viewers may see new cast members. He, though, is still not sure when they will appear or how they will be introduced. He adds that this is something that has seriously been taken up in their discussions?adding a new face or new faces.
A new recognizable face will also be featured in the series. This is incumbent and outgoing U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. It has been teased on social media that he will appear in the 18th installation of the series.
