What The Last Of Us 2 Will Be About
The second title continues the story of Joel and Ellie, although players will reportedly spend the majority of the time controlling the latter. It picks up some years later, as Ellie has already grown into a young woman in the trailer. Plot details are scarce, but Druckmann previously confirmed that hate will play a major role in the new game and the trailer reflected this remark.
We can recall that the trailer closed with Ellie promising to hunt down and kill a whole bunch of people. It’s pretty obvious that a great deal happened off screen since the first installment ended. We’re yet to determine what made Ellie so angry, but fans theorize it may have something to do with Joel.
Is Joel Dead?
A popular theory claims he may have died and the male character we saw Ellie conversed with in the video when she made that killing spree promise could be just a figment of her imagination. Many are convinced as Joel looked clean and young while Ellie looked messy and older.
There’s not a lot to go on to confirm at this point, but the theory is not an entirely crazy idea. Based on the events at the end of the original game, there are certainly people who are not happy with Joel like the revolutionary militia group Fireflies. In the first game, we saw Joel shot their leader Marlene to death after attempting to take Ellie away for surgery. So, it is possible that he has been murdered by the same group and Ellie wants to avenge his death.
The Last of Us 2 Release Date: What To Expect
Regardless, the game makers promised the game won’t definitely disappoint. Naughty Dog CEO Evan Wells assured the new title will be more interesting, exciting and thrilling than the first. In an interview, he goes to say that it “will be a great game. We actually just got the story pitch from Neil [Druckmann] very recently, and- it’s going to be amazing.”
Apart from the two aforementioned protagonists, The Last of Us 2 will introduce another character. Shannon Woodward, who plays Elsie in Westworld, recently boarded the game, though there is nothing to go on yet regarding the character she’s playing and her connections to the first game. Gameplay-wise, the Druckmann’s latest Twitter post teases horseback fighting sequences.
