We still don?t know if The Last of Us 2 actually exists. But now, thanks to the work of Kimmo Kaunela, we may have some idea on how it might look like on current-generation hardware. A few months back, the 3D artist released a set of post-apocalyptic images beautifully rendered in Unreal Engine 4.
This Artist’s Work Looks Like the Last of Us 2
Though not based on any one single game, he did single out the Last of Us as one of his chief influences for the project. Kaunela said on?his personal website that it took him nearly a year of work during weekends to complete this entire scene.
In an interview on 80.lv, he talked about his admiration for Naughty Dog and his inspirations.
?I love Naughty Dog?s style to do textures so that was something I tried aiming for. I wanted to put those textures in use so I decided to finally get UE4 and start learning,? said Kaunela. ?I also had pretty good idea what kind of environment I wanted to build. I wanted to mix indoor/outdoor areas and buildings with overgrown foliage. First it started like a fast test but it ended up being a huge project taking almost a year.?

If The Last of Us 2 ever becomes a reality, it will hopefully look just as detailed as Kaunela?s work. Rumors regarding the game have been floating around the Web for years, but Naughty Dog has remained quiet on its current state. Currently Naughty Dog is still busy developing more Uncharted 4 DLC?s as fans are eager to get their hands on new single-player content.
