People from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have been working hard to come up with a sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. This was announced during Microsoft?s stint at the recent E3 2014 event. The follow-up will be called Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and is scheduled for next-gen consoles Xbox One & PS4 as well as the Windows PC.
This information was made known alongside Microsoft?s debut of a new Rise of the Tomb Raider teaser trailer. Though the new Lara Croft game is amazing in its own right, it?s also seen as a move by Crystal Dynamic and Square Enix to fill the so-called Tomb Raider gap, since the next version of the game won?t be released until the latter half of 2015.
To begin with, the developers launched Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light in 2010 as a spin-off of the main Tomb Raider game franchise. With Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the game studios hope to live up with the well-received puzzle challenges and action that its predecessor had delivered. If the new Lara Croft trailer is of any indication (see below), the new game may indeed be on the right track.
The story begins with Lara Croft exploring the (guess what) mysterious Temple of Osiris hidden in the sands of the vast Egyptian desert. Her goal is to recover the lost Staff of Osiris ? a powerful tool that can control life and death. Upon arriving at the temple, Croft finds out that a new rival, Carter Bell, is also searching for the staff. Bell eventually seized the staff from its old resting place. By doing that, he unknowingly triggered an ancient curse, which is cast upon them, and unleashed Set, an evil god who is also Osiris? brother. The retrieval of the staff had also set free two other gods called Isis and Horus, the wife and son of Osiris respectively. These two friendlier gods proposed to help Bell and Croft remove their curse by joining them in the quest to stop Set.
The most notable change in this sequel is in its gameplay ? it will now allow up to four players to work together and fight against the supernatural forces brought upon by Set. Users can play the role of either Lara Croft, Carter Bell, or the gods Horus and Isis. Similar to Guardian of Light, the difficulty of the puzzles to be encountered will vary according to the number of players. Weapons will be wielded by the two raiders whereas the gods will use their own magical staff to navigate through the game.
As mentioned, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will arrive for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, but will probably come as a downloadable game from each of the game consoles? online stores. Only the word ?soon? has been used to describe its release date. As for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, no announcement has been made yet.
