Kobo is out on the tech world again, and this time they?re going big, making sure they?re ahead of their rival Kindle. Kobo recently launched a Kobo Aura One e-Reader teaser, which showed that the device sports a 7.8-inch E Ink display, which is a significant size difference compared with Kindle?s 6-inch E Ink displays.
Compared with its previous version, the Aura H20, the Kobo Aura One e-Reader comes with a larger screen, and it is significantly thinner and lighter. You would think that for a larger screen, the device will weigh more, but that is Kobo?s latest innovation. Bottomline, if you?re planning on buying the Kobo Aura One e-Reader, you?re getting a larger screen with lighter profile; a rather practical choice these days.
According to CNET, the Kobo Aura One e-Reader is also waterproof just like the Aura H20; but take note, the device does not float. As opposed to Kindle Notes which are not waterproof, the new Aura One e-Reader can withstand being submerged up to 2 meters deep and 60 minutes underwater. This is a rather big improvement compared to the Aura H20, which can only withstand 1 meter depth in 30 minutes.
CNET has also compiled the important specs of the Kobo Aura One e-Reader, and they include: device size of 195.1 x 138.5 x 6.9mm; weight: 230g; display of 7.8-inch Carta E Ink HD touchscreen with ultra-high resolution of 1,872×1,404, 300ppi; 8GB of internal storage (stores approximately 6,000 ebooks); and an i.MX6 Solo Lite Freescale, 1 GHz processor.
The supported file formats of the Aura One include HTML, XHTML and RTF text; CBZ, CBR comic books; EPUB, EPUB3, PDF and MOBI e-books; JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP and TIFF images. Kobo?s supported languages on the other hand include English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish.
The Kobo Aura One e-Reader is expected to launch in the US on September 6 with a tag price of $230. It will be available in Australia at a later date and will hit the market at AU$300.
