Will Kingdom Hearts 3 gameplay feature Riku as a playable character yet again? This is what current reports seem to speculate. Though unconfirmed officially, the prospect of KH3 having Riku be playable doesn’t come off as all that far-fetched. After all, it was already done before in a previous Kingdom Hearts game.
Will Riku be a Playable Character in Kingdom Hearts 3?
According to KHinsider, the February 2018 issue of Playstation Official Magazine – Australia claims that KH3 will feature a split perspective between Riku and the franchise’s main protagonist, Sora.
Previously, series director Tetsuya Nomura divulged that KH3 will indeed have another playable character besides Sora. “… There is an intention of adding a playable character aside from Sora,” said Nomura on the topic of other playable characters in the long awaited game. “Unfortunately we’re not able to disclose who it is yet, but there will be [another playable character].”
The rumor of Riku being another playable character in KH3 seems to supplement Nomura’s revelation. As mentioned, such a possibility is entirely feasible as it was already done before. Some fans may recall Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, which was released back in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. There, players could switch between both Sora and Riku in gameplay. Thus, there may be some truth in the rumor of Riku being a playable character. Only time will tell if this will indeed be the case upon the game’s release.
More Party Members
Nomura also previously revealed that Sora’s battle party will see an expansion in KH3. Former trailers for the game show that Sora’s typical battle party (composed of Donald, Goofy, and Sora himself) expanded by two members in the Toy Story world. This is an improvement from older titles in the series, as previously, players could only have a maximum of three members at a time in their party. As per Nomura, “up to five people can join” a player’s party.
In other KH3 news, there continues to be speculation on the worlds to be included in the game. While some new worlds have already been previously confirmed — such as the worlds of Toy Story, Big Hero 6, and Tangled — there is now some conjecture on a Fantasia world being included in the game.
“Familiar faces and places return but there are new worlds to visit inspired by Toy Story, Fantasia, and Tangled,” reads the blurb from Playstation Official Magazine – Australia.
It’s worth noting, though, that a Fantasia world was already included in KH3D. Whether or not Kingdom Hearts 3 will include a more updated take on Fantasia remains unknown.
