Gamescom 2016 will be happening later this week, and Square Enix is set to bring its biggest lineup ever. The acclaimed publisher will show off some gameplay from the upcoming Final Fantasy 15 while also showcasing other titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Dragon Quest Builders and the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, fans shouldn’t expect to see Kingdom Hearts 3 in the show.
For some odd reason, Square Enix will not be showcasing the third installment in the Kingdom Hearts series, though it will showcase December’s Kingdom Hearts 2.8 collection. This isn’t the only big name game that will be missing the show, as the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 remake won’t be showing up either.
The omissions of both Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 remake are quite strange, since the two titles are arguably the biggest games Square Enix is currently working on. Final Fantasy 15 is also heavily anticipated since gamers have been waiting for it for years. At one point, it was called Final Fantasy Versus 13 and was meant to come out on the PS3, so it has been in development for the longest time.
While Dragon Quest Builders will be getting some love in the event, it’s a bit of a head scratcher that the 3DS ports of Dragon Quest 7 and 8 won’t be making an appearance. While not as anticipated as the third Kingdom Hearts game, it’s still a set of RPGs that fans are excited about, so a short gameplay trailer or a demo wouldn’t have hurt. Fans also shouldn?t expect more updates on the Dragon Quest 10 port for the NX.
Gamers who want to see a console version of Dissidia: Final Fantasy in Gamescom 2016 are also out of luck. While the arcade fighter has been fairly popular in Japan, there has been no announcement of a console version just yet, only rumors. Should a console version of the fighter be announced, it will likely be next year.
Gamescom 2016 will run from August 19 to 21. It’s a shame that we won’t see Kingdom Hearts 3 in it, but it should be a good show nonetheless.
