Square Enix has announced Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 update 1.02, the game’s massive day one patch. Fans hoping to play these classic PS2 RPGs on the PS4 right away will need a really fast internet. The day one update comes at a whopping 5 GB, or 4.8 GB for those that are more technical.
This update size was confirmed by a fan on GameFaQs who managed to get the HD collection early. Said fan has fast internet, since the massive update was able to get downloaded in 30 or so minutes. Gamers interested in the collection can only hope that their internet is just as fast as this player’s connection.
Big Collection, Big Bugs
For those wondering why Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 update 1.02 is so big, the collection is bug-filled. According to this massive compiled on Pastebin, the collection has some issues that involve save crashing and framerate drops. There are even moments in Kingdom Hearts 2.5 where certain reaction buttons are inactive, which is a bit of a pain.
Some of these issues were also in the separate PS3 collections, so seeing them get fixed in a big update is nice. Framerate drops were probably expected, since the game is being ported from the PS3 versions, whilst also making them playable in 1080p. It’s clear that the title has been a pain for the developers to port, so the fact that the patch worked is good.
The user confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 update 1.02 helped fix a number of issues, though it did add some lag to chest opening. Compared to the amount of issues that were in the game pre-patched, this is an acceptable flaw fans can take. Expect this to be fixed soon as well, though that is something unconfirmed as of this writing.
With Kingdom Hearts 3 coming out eventually, this could be the final collection that comes out until the sequel. Square Enix has also released Kingdom Hearts 2.8, which comes with the 3DS title Dream Drop Distance and a prologue to Kingdom Hearts 3. These should keep fans busy until the final game comes to the PS4, whenever that comes out.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 comes out for PS4 next week on March 28. The collection comes with the first two games plus Chain of Memories – which is set after 1 and before 2 – and Birth by Sleep.
