Kim Woo Bin And Suzy Bae Cancel Fan Event In China? ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ Now Included In Ban?

By on

Kim Woo Bin and Suzy Bae were reportedly scheduled to have a fan meeting in China. However, the event?s sudden cancellation has fueled rumors that Uncontrollably Fond has been included in the country?s ban on Hallyu projects.

The KBS series stars Woo Bin as an arrogant celebrity named Shin Joon Young. Bae plays his love interest as an independent and quirky documentary producer named No Eul. The two?s love story is plagued with obstacles, including intertwining issues from their families? pasts.

The romantic drama has been performing well in China in spite of its mediocre ratings in other territories. Because of this, its lead stars were reportedly supposed to have a thanksgiving event with their loyal Chinese viewers. The meeting is also expected to boost the ratings of Uncontrollably Fond as its September 8 finale approaches.

However, a report from Korean news outlet Joins revealed that the Woo Bin and Bae fanmeet has been postponed.

There has been no official explanation as to why the event was cancelled. Because of this, some could not help but speculate that the move is related to the Chinese government?s recent ban on South Korean entertainment.

Uncontrollably Fond

According to previous reports, China is allegedly upset with Korea for supporting America?s deployment of a U.S.-developed missile shield.

In retaliation, the Chinese authorities have reportedly ordered TV stations in Guangdong province to disapprove new program applications featuring Hallyu stars. Even upcoming shows that were already initially accommodated will allegedly be cancelled.

One of the projects that is allegedly included in the ban is the rumored second season of the Descendants of the Sun. The wartime drama?s movie adaptation, which Chinese producers reportedly picked up, might also be postponed.

Just recently, Chinese mobile company Vivo also unexpectedly pulled out advertisements featuring Korean actor Song Joong Ki. This fueled speculations that China is serious about the alleged ban on Hallyu entertainment.
