Celebrities and fans have voiced out their support for the pop singer Kesha after her request to be freed from her contract with Sony Music was denied.
According to New York State Supreme Court, ?there has been no showing of irreparable harm? against the musician?s career. The Tik Tok singer is accusing and suing her producer Lukasz Gottwald (famously known as Dr. Luke) for sexual abuse.
Fans waited outside the court and were also unhappy with the decision, chanting ?Free Kesha Now.? Moreover, a number of celebrities including Lady Gaga, Lorde and Arianna Grande also took to Twitter to share their sentiments over the latest ruling.
After the result was released, Lady Gaga immediately came to her defense, tweeting ?There are people all over the world who love you @KeshaRose. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery.?
Singer Lorde also showed her support to the 28-year-singer, posting ?Standing with @KeshaRose through this traumatic, deeply unfair time. Send good vibes her way everyone.?
Kesha, on the other hand, thanked everyone who supported her. In her social media accounts, she wrote: ?thank you for all the support in my legal case animals. I love all of you. It?s meant the world to me. xoxo.?
In 2014, Kesha Rose Sebert filed a case against Dr. Luke for allegedly being raped by him when she was still 18 years old, her age when she signed under the Kemosabe label, a branch of Sony Music.
In September last year, she filed a motion for preliminary injunction requesting to suspend her existing contract so she could commit with other collaborators. However, the singer was distressed when the judge denied her plea. The judge explained: ?You?re asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry. My instinct is to do the commercially reasonable thing.?
On the other hand, Christine Lepera, Dr. Luke?s legal counsel, was satisfied with the proceeding, citing that the court has determined that Kesha has the capability to continue her career if she wishes to do so. With the sexual abuse allegations, Lepera said that their team is confident that these will be ?shown to be completely false and were asserted solely to extort money and gain contractual leverage.?
The We R Who We R maker also accused Dr Luke of alienating her from her family and of blackmailing her if she reports these incidents.
