Hip-hop rapper Kendrik Lamar receives the key to his city, Compton, California where the 28-year-old is considered as a hero. Lamar always expresses his love for his hometown through his music.
Compton Mayor Aja Brown announced on Thursday via Twitter that the hip-hop star will receive the key in a ceremony on February 13, 2016.
Brown praised the famous rapper in a statement saying, “Kendrick Lamar is a phenomenal artist whose work has served as a catalyst to raise a new level of consciousness for this generation.? She further added ?His message challenges the status quo and motivates listeners to rethink our society’s institutions. I believe Kendrick Lamar is not only an artist, but an influencer of an entire generation. ?He represents Compton with great pride and I am honored to present him with the Key to the City, which symbolizes our deep appreciation for his philanthropic work and commitment to our community. Mr. Lamar’s achievements further Compton’s legacy of ingenuity and excellence. Kendrick Lamar represents Compton’s evolution, embodying the New Vision for Compton–Purpose, Prosperity and Progress.”

Apart from this achievement, Lamar was given the ?Generational Icon? award by the California State Senate in May last year. He was also made the 63rd Grand Marshal of the city?s Christmas Parade.
?Being from the city of Compton, and knowing the parks that I played at, and the neighborhoods, I always thought of how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community off what I do in music,? he said at the time. ?So, in order to do that from a city all the way to a state standpoint, then you have these young kids look at me as some type of inspiration, it?s really an honor, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for honoring me today,? Lamar said according to MTV.
Lamar met with the US President Barack Obama at the Oval Office last year. According to Rap-Up, K-Dot will attend the Grammys two days after receiving the key to Compton in mid-February. He leads the 2016 Grammys with 11 nominations.
One more good news for his fans–Kendrick Lamar and J Cole?s supposed collaboration points out to a possible February 16 release date.
