There have been many rumors about Kendrick Lamar and J Cole?s album, much to the excitement of hip-hop heads worldwide. However, with still no information on its release date, fans are wondering if the project will still push through.
We have rounded up several rumors to assess if the highly anticipated collaboration is likely to get cancelled.
The first hurdle stems from the copyright infringement scandal of award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar. A case was recently filed against him for allegedly copying the song “Don’t You Want To Stay” by Bill Withers. According to the complainant, the rapper did not ask for his permission to use the 1975 track in his 2009 single ?I Do This.?
Apart from the legal woes, Kendrick Lamar?s schedule has also been very hectic. The outspoken lyricist was recently invited to perform at President Barack Obama?s 55th birthday. He is also rumored to be collaborating with Reebok for a new sneaker line dubbed “Classic Leather.?
As for J Cole, the ?Work Out? rapper has been busy performing with rap superstar Drake. Just recently, he was brought out as a surprise guest during the ?Hotline Bling? artist?s “Summer Sixteen” tour in New York.
Drake even commended the Fayetteville native in front of his sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden. “He’s really one of the smartest, greatest, most legendary artists our generation, period,” Drake said.
The two?s busy schedules could mean that Kendrick Lamar and J Cole?s album will simply be postponed to a later date. However, the project just might get scrapped altogether based on rumors that J Cole will retire soon.
Speculations were fueled because of the lyrics to his upcoming single with DJ Khaled, entitled “Jermaine’s Interlude.” ?”N***as murkin’ each other, in murky water I try and swim/ How the f*** do I look when I brag to you about some diamond?/ Said all I could say, now I play with thoughts of retirement,” J Cole raps in the track.
Fans are expected to get disappointed if the Roc Nation rapper will truly retire without finishing the Kendrick Lamar ? J Cole album. However, Kendrick Lamar seems to already have a back-up plan with ?Best Day Ever? rapper Mac Miller.
Given all of these issues, do you think that the Kendrick Lamar ? J Cole album will still be released? Let us know what you think and make sure to keep following TheBitBag for updates.
