Jose Fernandez?s death shocked the entire sporting world, but the most affected of all are his colleagues in Major League Baseball (MLB). Tributes have been shared not just by his team, the Miami Marlins, but by rivals from the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.
The 24-year-old pitcher died early Sunday because of a boating accident at the Miami Harbor.
Cause of Jose Fernandez?s death
Florida authorities narrated how coast guard patrols noticed an overturned vessel on the north side of a jetty. It was perched on the edge that was filled with jagged rocks. This is where they found the body of Fernandez and two male companions.
Based on an impact analysis on the crash site, the group?s boat hit the jagged rocks at almost to full speed. A 32-foot SeaVee model, the said watercraft, can reportedly reach speeds of 50-65 mph.
Further investigation showed that Fernandez was just a passenger and not the owner of the boat. Authorities believe that he died due to the impact of the crash and not because of drowning.
Reaction of Jose Fernandez?s Marlin colleagues
Jose Fernandez?s death was mourned by his team and communicated via their official website.
