Jon Jones Suspension Extended: More Details On His Doping Case

By on

Last time, it was reported that two MMA personalities had divulged that interim UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has tested for estrogen blockers. The two were former Octagon opponents Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans. This was confirmed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

NSAC attorney Caroline Bateman, as per MMA Junkie, revealed in a hearing earlier that Jon Jones tested positive for hydroxy-clomiphene and Letrozole metabolite. The first is an anti-estrogen drug and the second is also considered to be an estrogen blocker. Both drugs are listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned substance list. As pointed out by Fox Sports, WADA lists them as hormone and metabolic modulators. These two substances are not allowed both in and out of competition.

Because of such, the temporary suspension on Jon Jones? Nevada fight license was extended by a unanimous vote. A formal hearing will likely happen in September or October 2016. Jon Jones will have attorney Howard Jacobs to represent him. Jacobs has successfully appealed for a case involving Tim Means to settle for a lesser sanction. Means was bound to serve a two-year suspension but a successful appeal landed him to settle for a 6-month sanction. His defense was founded upon the claim that his supplements were tainted with a banned substance that was not included in the label. This looks like to be the same type of defense that Jon Jones will likely submit in the hearing.

UFC president Dana White ?revealed that he may not be the biggest Jon Jones fan as of the moment but he believes that Jones unknowingly ingested the illegal substance. But then again, White pointed out that Jon Jones should have been more responsible.

Many would think that this has tarnished Jones? legacy. This too was said when Anderson Silva was flagged for doping as well. What do you think? Is it over for Jon Jones? Or, should he get just one last pass after a couple of misdealings with the law that jeopardized his career?
