This year, Universal Pictures seems to be a real winner since it delivered successful films like Fifty Shades Of Grey, Fast and Furious 7, Jurassic World and Minions. But looks like their latest release Jem and the Holograms has turned out to be a complete disaster.
The movie that released two weeks ago had to be pulled out from the theatres. According to Variety?exhibitors have been pushing the feature film live-action reboot of the ?80s cartoon out of theaters, with Jem and the Holograms remaining in just approximately 50 locations. While some reports say Universal pulled the picture, the culprits are actually theaters.
It is even reported that the movie is nowhere close to the show and things were not in favour of the film since the beginning. Business Insider?reports that the movie has got a rating of 20 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. The reports further stated that Jem came in 15th place its opening week in theaters, taking in $1.37 million on 2,413 screens. That’s $570 per screen.
Jem and the Holograms is now being counted in the worst opening that a studio has ever had and also a movie that has had the worst opening in the history of films since it had 2,000 screens dedicated to itself. However, it can?t be taken away that the studio has had the best box-office success this year. It?s hard to tell if Universal pulled the movie because they were embarrassed by it, or because they?ve made so much money this year that they decided dealing with it wasn?t worth their time, reports Cinema Blend.
However, the bottom line is that, fans are extremely upset with the studio for making a movie like Jem and the Holograms considering the fact that they have made some of the best movies made in the history of cinema. But we are sure they will make up for it with their upcoming releases.
