Divorce rumors between Jay Z and Beyonc? have been circulating as early as 2004 and back then, the reason was reportedly because the rapper was having an affair with a then 17-year old Rihanna.
The truth behind the rumors is slowly being unraveled with a confirmation from Jonathan Hay, RiRi?s former publicist, who owned up to starting the rumor to get publicity for RiRi?s debut single ?Pon de Replay?. Hay publicly apologized to Queen Bey according to a statement he gave to the New York Daily News.
?The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ?Pon de Replay?,” he wrote in an email statement he sent to the Daily News. ?It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.?
More details about this ugly rumor can be found in an upcoming unofficial biography on Beyonc? called ?Becoming Beyonc?: The Untold Story? by J. Randy Taraborelli.
?I didn’t think it would be this big story,? Hay further said. ?But now, seeing Beyonc? on the cover of this book and knowing that people are profiting from speculations and opinions about her really turns my stomach. I’m ashamed that I’m even talking about this. I just want to put this rumor to rest once and for all,? Hay added.
According to Taraborelli, Beyonc? was so upset that she split with Jay Z in 2005 and the same rumor is said to be the reason behind the infamous elevator fight between the couple and Bey?s sister, Solange Knowles.
Hay is hoping his stunt won?t affect his affiliation with Tidal, a music streaming service owned by the music industry moguls, where Hay is currently releasing projects under his Urban Hitchcock label. No announcement has been made yet if Hay?s music will be pulled out from Tidal and the couple has yet to comment on the situation.
As it turns out, Jay and Bey may have the last laugh after more than 10 years.
