It took a while, but it looks like the Jak and Daxter games will be coming out sooner rather than later. The upcoming PS2-on-PS4 games – Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak 2, Jak 3 and Jak X Combat Racing – have finally been rated by the ESRB. All of these games are great and fans have been anticipating these re-releases since Sony announced them.
According to One Angry Gamer, you can see the ratings for the game in the ESRB website when you type Jak in their search engine. All four games pop up and have PlayStation 4 listed under their platforms, so these HD remasters should be coming out soon. The first game was announced as a pre-order bonus for the Uncharted: Lost Legacy expansion, so maybe the titles will be out by then.
While the Jak and Daxter re-releases will please PS4 fans, it might annoy those that picked up the HD collection on PS3. Furthermore, the original Jak and Daxter will have the black bars on the side on PS4, while the HD edition on PS3 doesn’t have them at all. There’s a good chance that fans of the series might wanna stick with their PS3 copy and only shell out cash for Jak X Combat Racing.
One missing game from the collection is Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, which originally came out on PSP and was ported to the PS2. Though the gameplay was serviceable, many felt that it was the weakest of the series and had the worst story. Going from mystic prophecies to space pirates, many felt that the game was a poor attempt to keep the franchise alive and is a poor finale to the series.
Expect news on the re-releases soon, now that each game has been rated. However, fans that have a PS3 can get the Jak and Daxter collection right now for US$4.99 on the PSN Midyear Sale. They have a week to get the game before it goes back to US$9.99.
