ISIS Android app? After being kicked off various messaging services such as WhatsApp and Telegram, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) created their own messaging app encrypted to Android called ?Alrawi?.
The app developed by the militant group was discovered by the counterterrorism network Ghost Security Group. According to the group, the app is intended to make it harder for security agencies and governments to intercept the communications between its members.
The app is not downloadable from the Google Play Store and for members to be able to use it, they will need an ISIS supporter to download the app?s apk code and sideload it on their Android device, as reported by NDTV.
?The application?s primary purpose is for propaganda distribution. Using the app you are able to follow the most recent news and video clips,? Defense One was told by Ghost Security. The terrorist group has also been distributing a booklet containing a list of to-do and not-to-do for their supporters. In addition, the booklet also includes a list of tools that could help them have a secured conversation.
These features of the app made it harder for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other government-run organizations from tracking them and because of the threatening move by ISIS, some independent groups have already joined the ?war? like the hacktivist group Anonymous. The group already declared war against the terrorist group last year, including a campaign to troll jihadists online.
?Alwari? is the second app of the ISIS group. The first one which was called ?Amaq Agency? ?was also revealed by the security group. It was used by the militants to send their members news and recruitment information.
Prior to the development of the app, thousands of ISIS-related accounts were shut down last year on Facebook and Twitter. They were also kicked off Telegram after the terrorist attack in Paris. The war against terrorism is not over. It will take continuous efforts to put an end to it. Let us all contribute in our own way to make our world a better and safer place to live in.
