iPad Pro Release Put on Hold Till 2015; New iPad Air and iWatch To be Released in 2014
It seems that all the excitement for the release of the iPad Pro will have to wait for at least several months.
Digitimes (a daily newspaper for semiconductor, electronics, computer and communications industries in Taiwan and the Greater China region) said that the anticipated new iPad with a 12.9 inch display, and is currently referred to as the iPad Pro, will not be released until early 2015.
The newspaper claims that Apple Inc. (AAPL) is still having a problem with the size of the tablet since it does not fit with the current Apple ?ecosystem?.
This development has pushed Apple suppliers to adjust their plans accordingly.
This news was confirmed by Ming Chi Kuo, an analyst of KGI Securities (an investment advisory company that has locations all over Asia). Kuo validated this development and said that a 2015 release for the iPad Pro is more likely, but added that a new model of an iPad Air will instead be released this year.
This updated iPad Air will reportedly come with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and an A8 processor.
The iPad Pro is expected to be released during the first quarter of 2015 but will be initially distributed with a limited supply.
Kuo said that ? We believe Apple plans to launch (an) upgraded iPad Air early this year, and will accelerate development of (a) 12.9″ iPad…As such, more resources will be allocated to these two products, which will affect the progress of the development of (a) new iPad mini.?
Digitimes also reported that Apple plans to transfer resources away from the iPad mini to the much larger tablets due to the disappointing sales of the retina model of the iPad mini.
Kuo added that the larger tablets like the iPad Pro will serve as a catalyst for Apple developers to come up with more apps that are suitable for a larger display. He also mentioned that Apple has been putting the development of the iWatch as a priority and that the iWatch release might take place this year.
