For months, we thought iOS 10.3 jailbreak will never see the light of day. However, there’s a new word out that a JB tool for this version of iOS is already in the works and it’s arriving sometime this August.
Security researcher Adam Donenfeld wrote on Twitter that a privilege escalation exploit has already been written, and an iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak exploit will be rolled out during “conferences season.” He referenced two names in his posting —#zimperium, a software company focused on developing several mobile threat detection software where he’s currently working; and #hitgbsec, a security conference that will be held Singapore on August 21 to 25.
Check out his tweet below.

This is good news for jailbreak hopefuls, but how true is this claim?
Who is Adam Donenfeld?
As mentioned earlier, Donenfeld is an employee at Zimperium, a highly respected mobile security software company whose clients include multinational telcos, financial services companies, and social media networks. Even Luca Todesco, the notorious Italian hacker and Yalu jailbreak developer, follows him on Twitter so that should mean something.
Note, though, that Donenfeld isn’t the one releasing the jailbreak. He made it clear that he will just provide the source code and instructions for other security researchers, which they can use to develop a JB tool. The exploit has a security patch as of iOS 10.3.2, but it has yet to be confirmed whether or not it will work on all iOS 10.2 – iOS 10.3.1 devices. The jailbreakers picking up the source code remains to be seen either.
Which team will work on the iOS 10.3 Jailbreak tool?
Luca Todesco is an obvious contender, but 1redDrop reports he’ll unlikely work on it since he’s still getting his Yalu102 jailbreak to work on iPhone 7. The TaiG Jailbreak Team hasn’t released something significant for two years now, meaning there’s only a 50-50 chance that they’ll pick it up. As for Pangu, there have been indications that there will be no iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak tool coming from the Chinese team.
It looks like we might have to wait until August to know who’s giving us the long due JB tool.
What to do before jailbreaking a device
In the meantime, hopefuls can ready their devices for the potential jailbreak.
- Backup iPhone. Taking a backup of the important files and data on your iPhone ensures you can restore everything even if anything goes wrong during the jailbreak process.
- Downgrade iOS. Make sure you don’t upgrade to iOS 10.3.2 to avoid being locked out of any future jailbreak. Now, if you’ve already crossed over onto iOS 10.3.2, we recommend downgrading now by following the instructions here.
- Save SHSH Blobs. Saving the blobs will allow you to upgrade or downgrade to the firmware whenever the jailbreak is available. Read the step-by-step procedure here.
Now, let’s keep our fingers crossed that something does materialize in August. If it does, we’ll be sure to bring you the details as soon as we have them. Stay tuned!
