Instagram users on the web will now be able to use the same functionalities on the smartphone app as the company has?now released its new?Instagram search features?that enables users to search for other profiles as well as locations and hashtags.
Instagram has long been lacking a search feature since the app was launched with only Instagram?s smartphone app having the feature. An Instagram spokesperson said the move to introduce the web search feature was their way of improving the overall Instagram experience.
?Web search is part of a broader commitment to improving discovery across our platforms,? Instagram spokesperson told Forbes. ?With 70 million photos shared to Instagram each day, if something is happening in the world, it?s likely being captured on Instagram.?
The spokesperson said the search feature for the web will help give a better experience for its users and will help complement the browsing experience on the Instagram mobile app. The new search tool is displayed at the center of the Instagram page. Searching for a location will now bring-up images, and searching for a username will now give you individual accounts. ?A ?Top Posts? was also introduced to display popular web results so they can be guided in looking for the best locations and hashtags.
??While Instagram.com is designed to be complementary to the mobile apps, it?s important to the global conversations that happen on Instagram,? the spokesperson said. ?Instagram.com allows you to view Instagram content from anywhere, and brings the Web at large into the Instagram community?
Instagram, a photo sharing application which was bought by Facebook in 2012 for $1-billion, is a widely used social app with over 300 million monthly active users. Updates for Instagram has been continuously released and an ?Explore? feature was introduced earlier this month so users can find news, events, and anything they wanted.
