NetherRealm Studios has recently released the second Injustice 2 DLC character, Sub-Zero, as a playable character in the game. This version of Sub-Zero openly acknowledges events of the Mortal Kombat vs DC game when talking to the characters. Does this mean that MK vs DC is canon in the Injustice 2 universe?
As seen in MKIceAndFire’s video, Sub-Zero mentions the battle against Dark Kahn and teaming up with some of the DC characters. In addition to his MK vs DC knowledge, this Sub-Zero also knows Mortal Kombat X’s Erron Black. Erron Black was only introduced in MKX as a new character to the franchise. Obviously, the guest character was dropping references to the crossover fighting game where they fought to defeat a fusion of Darkseid and Shao Kahn to save their worlds.
Due to Injustice 2’s acknowledgement of multiple alternate universes, it’s easy to insert characters from other worlds as well. Merely mentioning other worlds without actual visits to it is possible thanks to Injustice 2’s multiverse world. Sub-Zero’s guest appearance isn’t impossible as he can jump in the DC Comics world easily. So far, we’ve yet to pinpoint this Sub-Zero’s original universe.
Fans loved their Mortal Kombat and Injustice series from NetherRealm Studios, but Midway Games’ MK vs DC was badly received due to its abysmal quality. Another MK vs DC entry would only be palatable if NetherRealm Studios makes them. The company has improved on their delivery since Mortal Kombat 9 and the first Injustice.
As of Injustice 2’s DLC leaks, Raiden from Mortal Kombat will also be a guest character in Injustice 2. We might get more Mortal Kombat world information from him once he arrives in this game. It’s currently unknown if we’ll get the original lawful good Raiden or the post-Mortal Kombat X Raiden where he plans to kill all threats to protect his realm.
