Injustice 2 will be the first major fighting game to come on consoles for 2017 and fans are excited. The sequel looks to be a major improvement from the first game, with more characters and a seemingly improved story. It seems like NetherRealms is going all out with the story mode, making it feel like a big comic event.
Despite three Shattered Alliances trailers, fans only have a vague grasp on the story, which isn’t a bad thing. If anything, it shows that the developers are doing a decent job by keeping the fans guessing, so that’s good. So without further ado, here is what we have deduced from the fighting game’s story thus far.
After the first game focused on hero vs hero fights, Injustice 2 brings villains back to the main conflict. Brainiac was revealed during the game’s first teaser and we have also seen Gorilla Grodd form his own team. Considering how divided most of the heroes are, it makes the conflict even more interesting in the sequel.
Super Hero Civil War
Despite the rise of new villains, the heroes will remain divided, though it seems like some have switched sides. Hal Jordan has earned his Green Lantern ring again and has seemingly sided with Batman and Flash. We have also seen scenes with Batman and Robin together, hinting that the two are trying to patch things up.
Girl Of Steel
Supergirl will play a major role in Injustice 2, as trailers have shown her conflicted on which side she should join. The character will have just arrived on Earth, hence her absence from the events of the first fighting game. Expect her to play a major role, giving whatever side she chooses a huge boost in momentum.
New Kids On The Block
Younger characters like Blue Beetle and Firestorm look to have an interesting presence in the story, though it’s not clear how major they will be. Pitting the old guard against the new usually leads to interesting bouts of conflict, so they should be fun additions to the game. With more characters yet to be introduced, more younger characters could make this a worthwhile battle.
Injustice 2 is slated for a May 16 release on the PS4 and Xbox One, with Darkseid as a pre-order bonus. There are a number of editions to pre-order, each one having their own unique prizes, like extra DLC. A mobile game and comic book are planned to coincide with the game’s release.
