While fans wait for the first Injustice 2 DLC Pack, they got a surprise from one of the game’s artists. An unused Static Shock design was revealed to the public, showing off the character’s attire, which is interesting. It’s a shame that the character was cut from the game, though he would be a decent DLC fighter.
Injustice 2 Character Designer Marco Nelor showed off his unique redesign for the character on Instagram, and it looks pretty good to be honest. Static would have likely been partnered with Blue Beetle and Firestorm in the story, since they’re viewed as the future. Given the tricky situation about Static’s copyright and ownership, along with his familiar powers, the cut is an understandable move.
Gotta be a Superhero
Arguably the most popular character from Milestone Comics, Static Shock was loved by fans, thanks to an excellent animated series. He would have been great to see as Injustice 2 DLC, had his powers not been similar to Black Adam. NetherRealms made it a priority to diversify the cast, so there aren’t many characters that have similar powers or move-sets.
The issues between DC and Milestone Comics might have also been a factor, since the two haven’t seen eye-to-eye lately. DC published their comics, including Static Shock and Icon, but things have gotten much more complicated in recent years. It’s hard to say if they will resolve these issues, but it would be nice, since it would allow various characters to have comics again.
A Shocking Revelation?
Showing of the Static Shock design now is harmless, since the character was cut from the final game. Fans are theorizing that this reveal could be a tease for the next Injustice 2 DLC, but that seems unlikely. While anything is possible with enough fan support, Static’s status with DC is too risky for now, which is disappointing.
It’s worth noting that Static Shock did become playable in the first Injustice mobile game, which got plenty of attention. He was one of the first mobile exclusive character for it, with later additions like Arkham Knight added later on. Expect him to appear in Injustice 2 mobile, if he doesn’t end up as part of any DLC character packs.
Injustice 2 is available now for the PS4 and Xbox One, so fans should pick it up when they have the chance. The game is excellent, with a fun combat system and endless replayability for loot fans.
