It looks like Nightwing will be in Injustice 2 after all, though we’re just not sure if he will be playable. Fans that managed to nab an early copy have shared screenshots of some Nightwing fights in the game’s story mode. This has made fans wonder if Nightwing is a playable character or an NPC that’s only fought in story mode.
Numerous Reddit threads have fans arguing about Nightwing’s role in the game, with everyone agreeing that he’s still Damian Wayne. Footage of the fight keeps getting pulled, but we do know this Nightwing has his move-set from Injustice 1. Fans can only hope that he’s a playable fighter, since fighting games have burned fans with unplayable NPC’s before.
We Want Nightwing
A bunch of theories have been thrown about Nightwing’s appearance in Injustice 2, which has made many players hopeful. Some think that Robin will have specific gear that turns him into Nightwing, since Black Adam supposedly turns to Shazam. Others think that Nightwing will be a playable character that wasn’t announced to surprise fans, which would be nice.
There’s even a possibility that he starts out as an NPC and becomes DLC later on, ala Mortal Kombat X. According to this Reddit thread, Tanya was an NPC with Katana’s moves, later becoming DLC with a brand new move-set. Since the NPC Nightwing has his Injustice 1 move-set, he could have a new one when he’s a DLC character.
Fighting Games Shouldn’t Have NPC’s
Whether he’s DLC, a Premiere Skin or a hidden character, fans just want Nightwing in Injustice 2 in some capacity. The fact that his character model appears in story mode is enough to have fans excited for his playability. Fans might be divided on the issue, but they can agree on one thing: no fighting game should have NPCs.
Street Fighter 5’s Shadow Falls had a number of NPCs that weren’t playable, despite having diverse move-sets. Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto was the worst offender, with Shikadai and other characters not playable. Hopefully the developers in NetherRealms know better and make him playable somehow, since his model is already in the game.
Injustice 2 is slated for a May 16 release on the PS4 and Xbox One. Those that pre-order the game can get Darkseid as a bonus character, no matter what version they get. Mobile fans can get the mobile version on iOS and Android devices.
