It looks like the Injustice 2 Arcade mode won’t be disappointing any fighting game fans anytime soon. As usual, players will have to make their way through a number of opponents, eventually culminating in a boss fight. To no one’s surprise, Brainiac is the final boss in Arcade mode, but his moves will take many off guard.
According to a video from fighting game enthusiast Maximillian Dood, boss Brainiac has moves the playable version doesn’t. Since the final fight takes place in his spaceship, Brainiac can use parts of the environment to his advantage. These do a lot of damage and should provide a good challenge for those interested in the single-player experience.
Classic Arcade Challenge
Having a final boss that has cheap moves is a very classic move and should make the Injustice 2 Arcade mode more interesting. This is expected from NetherRealms, since they did something similar in the Arcade mode of Mortal Kombat X. Players that enjoy fighting games will have a good time with this, along with the recently revealed Multiverse mode.
Making Brainiac a cheap final boss should be fun, especially with the difficulty upped for a better challenge. Cheap moves include summoning a giant tentacle that does a ton of damage and making lasers appear out of nowhere. Boss Brainiac looks fun to fight and it will feel gratifying taking him down, especially with a harder difficulty level.
With a Story mode that has alternate paths, along with Arcade and Multiverse, there’s plenty to do in Injustice 2. Single-player fighting games might not sound appealing, but packing a ton of content like this is fairly respectable. The fact that there is also plenty of gear to unlock should add more replayability to the comic book fighter.
Hardcore players will likely try to complete every character’s Injustice 2 Arcade mode, so that should be good fun for everyone. Story mode might be the priority though, since the game could have unlockable characters for all we know. Since Brainiac is the Arcade mode boss, he can’t just be playable right away, though who knows at this point.
Injustice 2 is slated for a May 16 release on PS4 and Xbox One, with Darkseid as a pre-order bonus. The mobile version is also slated for a May 11 release and those who pre-register can get Catwoman. Fans of the game will be able to pick up a physical copy of the tie-in comic this week, collecting the first few digital chapters.
