During its light-themed event in London on Wednesday, Huawei launched its 2015 flagship creation, the Huawei P8. The new handset was brought up on stage by the company’s CEO, Richard Yu, who wanted to ignite “infinite creativity” among users. The model follows the footsteps of its predecessors, sporting a sleek metal frame and a 6.4mm-thin body.
Thinner than Samsung?s Galaxy S6
The Huawei P8 flaunts an elegant design made of glass and steel. Its body is only 0.25 inches thin, noticeably slimmer than Samsung?s current flagship, the Galaxy S6. Other notable features include a 5.2-inch full HD screen and a fast octa-core CPU.
Tom?s Guide described its thin body and vivid 1080p screen as minimalistically sexy and that it?s steel and glass construction emanates a solid and luxurious feeling. According to the manufacturer, it takes 810 minutes to craft the body out of aluminum. There?s a special nano-coating that makes the phone splashproof and also protects it from accidental damage.
The P8 is one of the slimmest smartphones around, aside from beating the Galaxy S6 (0.27 inches) in the thin-profile department, it also one-upped the iPhone 6 (0.27 inches) and the HTC One M9 (0.37 inches).
Specs under the hood
Specs-wise, the Huawei P8 packs some of the latest and greatest hardware in the mobile tech industry. It?s equipped with an in-house Kirin 930 processor that includes eight 64-bit cores in a big.LITTLE arrangement, four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2GHz and four Cortex A53 at 1.5GHz. There?s 3GB worth of RAM and the device?s built-in storage space starts from 16GB.
The Shenzhen-based device maker managed to cram a 2,680 mAh battery in it narrow body and, as cleverly noted by Android Authority, the camera on the back does not bulge like many other slim and high-end handsets these days. The main camera comes with a 13MP sensor coupled with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a dual-LED flash. Selfie takers won?t be disappointed as the phone has an 8MP front snapper.
GSMArena reports that the Huawei P8?s US variant will arrive on May and unlocked 16GB version will be tagged with a $529 price (about ?500). Along with the P8, the company also launched the huge 6.8-inch Huawei P8 Max phablet which will also be available globally next month.
