Apple is known for its iconic and impressive line of products. This is perhaps why other companies look at Apple as a measure to which they can make their products to look good. The latest addition to the ever increasing number of companies following Apple’s footsteps is Huawei. The company just announced its very first laptop in the market; the Huawei MateBook X.
Huawei is known for its high-end smartphones as well as tablets and hybrid devices. Now, the company has dipped its toe into the mainstream electronics market by introducing the MateBook X. Apart from taking the look of the MacBook, the MateBook X does have a few tricks up its sleeve.
Starting with an Intel Kaby Lake processor
The one thing that a MacBook does not have is a good processor. Right now, the most that one can have on the laptop is an m7 chip. Not to say that the Intel m7 processor is a bad one but it does not compare to a full-fledged Intel processor.
The Huawei MateBook X, while sharing some design styles, sports the latest Intel Kaby Lake chip. Not only that, the laptop can have as much as an i7 under its hood. In addition to the new processor, it also packs an 8GB RAM as well as 512GB of flash storage.
Another spec of the MacBook that users have much gripe on is its 12-inch display. While this is more than enough for most applications, it is still rather easy to run out of space. The good thing is, the MateBook X does offer a bit more headroom with its 13-inch panel.
The 2160×1440 IPS panel has an aspect ration of 3:2, similar to a Surface Pro, and has a brightness of 350 nits. In terms of color space, it can recreate 100 percent of sRGB color.
More ports to connect with
MacBook users all know how it is to live a dongle life. It is not a secret that the laptop only has one USB Type-C port that doubles as its charging port. Therefore, anyone who uses the said port for charging will not be able to use it for other purposes. The good news is, the Huawei MateBook X has two USB Type-C ports. On top of that, it comes with its own MateDock that splits one of the USB 3.0 ports to two USB Type-A and an HDMI port as well as a VGA port.
Enough juice to last a day of use
All of these impressive hardware specs will be for naught if there is not enough juice to power them all. Nowadays, most users choose devices that last at least eight hours as a matter of convenience. And this is where a MacBook flourishes.
The good news is, the Huawei MateBook X is not the one to be left behind. Packing a big enough 41.4Wh lithium-ion battery, the Huawei laptop can last for up to ten hours of video playback.
For users who are very concerned about security, the MateBook X does have fingerprint scanner embedded underneath the power button. This feature not only prevents non-registered users from gaining access to the device, it can also identify who the user is.
