HTC is now rolling out an update to its custom user interface, the Sense 6.0 UI, for the HTC One M7 phone. This update, however, will only be available for the Unlocked and Developer edition models of the said smartphone in the United States.
Talking on Twitter earlier this week, a product manager from HTC, Leigh Miami, disclosed that the mentioned models of One M7 will now be able to get the Sense 6 KitKat UI treatment. Owners of the carrier-version of One M7 will have to wait a little longer. But what they would love to hear is that the Sense 6 updates for the Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint-branded models are now in their final certification stage. It means that they can expect to enjoy the new software a few weeks from now.
This latest revision to the custom HTC UI will bring smoother interfaces for the Camera and Gallery apps. The change-log mentions improvements to BlinkFeed ? HTC?s attempt to integrate Facebook, Twitter, news, sports, and entertainment feeds all in one place. Changes also include better font & theme support as well as an improved Extreme Power Saving mode. Although this Sense 6 update carries many features found in its HTC One M8 version, it is worth emphasizing that it?s not exactly the same with the Sense 6 Full Version which is currently powering the One M8. This is mainly because of hardware restrictions limiting the One M7.
Since this software update is 667.15 MB-heavy, you might need to be sure that your phone has enough battery before starting to download. It will definitely take a huge chunk off your data plan so it is recommended to be linked to a WiFi connection, which will also help save battery life. If you are unsure if your device is supported, you can simply go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check Now.
HTC is not only known for their timely software upgrades, they are also very transparent when it comes to their announcements. For that reason, HTC recently revised their website to show where they are in terms of software updates. You can see, in the image that comes with this article, the current status of the Sense 6 update for all of their HTC One models.
