Aside from the much speculated HTC Hima handset thought to be released by the Taiwanese device maker this year, a new rumor surfaced online suggesting another model. The device is said to be the HTC One M8i with mid-level specs.
If you?ve been avidly following HTC?s moves these past weeks, then you already know that the company might have been using decoys to hide their true plans for the 2015 flagship. However, that doesn?t stop people from digging out more information.
Hours ago, a China-based leakster with the Twitter handle @upleaks has posted a tweet mentioning the rumored model. In the post, the HTC One M8i is reportedly codenamed ?M8_QL.? Of course, we should take this with a grain of salt as it is yet to be confirmed and the source is not indicated. That said, @upleaks has a history of interesting revelations and many of them turned out to be accurate.
HTC One M8i rumored specs
Given its name, we can assume that it will have significant similarities with 2014?s One M8 handset. The tweet also revealed that the HTC One M8i will be packed with a Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) from Qualcomm. A quick browse on the manufacturer?s website told us that this chipset has a 64-bit octa-core ARM processor made up of four Cortex A53 CPUs humming at 1.7GHz and another four that are clocked at just 1 GHz. Sadly, that?s all of the information we have about the device as of now.
Mid-range version of the HTC Hima
We do know that Snapdragon 615 isn?t the latest and greatest SoC in the semiconductor world right now. The ?M8i? branding also implies that it won?t be the next flagship people are expecting; it is widely believed to be aptly called HTC One M9 or HTC Hima. Therefore, this rumor, along with choice of processor, led some mobile tech watchers to assume that it is mid-range companion of the upcoming 2015 flagship model.
