Rumors about an upcoming HTC Butterfly 3 have been hanging around the tech rumor mills for a while now. A recent benchmark listing, however, may reveal exactly what HTC fans can expect from the unannounced device.
Another high-end model from HTC
The Taiwan-based device maker has already announced a new flagship model for 2015, the HTC One M9 handset, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last month. Now, it seems that HTC isn?t done with launching high-end offerings for this year. The company is reportedly about to release the third iteration of its Butterfly series of premium smartphones.
Back in in February, purported specs of the HTC Butterfly 3 were posted by avid leakster @upleaks, but things have become quiet since that time. That is not the case anymore as the handset has just visited a benchmark site called CompuBench with the model name J Butterfly HTV31.
Specs to expect
According to the benchmark, the upcoming HTC smartphone will be equipped by a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, Qualcomm?s latest and most powerful chipset. It will ?backed by 3GB of RAM and coupled with a 32GB built-in storage. Users can also expect ?a 19-megapixel main camera at the back and a 12-megapixel camera on the front.
In other words, future owners of the Butterfly 3 will be enjoying unusually sharp selfies. Those photos will certainly look great on the handset?s 5.1-inch display with 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, that amounts to a massive 575ppi pixel density. The model will have the usual array of sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, pedometer, and GPS, among others. Furthermore, it was benchmarked running an Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS. Mobile tech site PhoneArena observed that the listing didn?t mention if the device is waterproof, but the site assumes that it will be since all previous Butterfly models are IP-certified waterproof.
HTC has only launched the Butterfly series in Asian markets, Android Authority noted. Users should be aware that these specs are not yet final as the company has not confirmed anything yet. However, if the CompuBench benchmark turn out to be accurate, then it would potentially outperform the current HTC One M9 in the specs department. It would also make it hard for the company not to offer such powerful device to other markets including Europe and North America. PhoneArena reported that the HTC Butterfly 3 may be announced by the company at the end of May, citing sources from Russia.
