Hewlett-Packard has announced a pair of Android tablets primarily geared at the business world. However, the HP Pro Slate 12 and Pro Slate 8 do have features that won?t disappoint hardcore tablet users especially those who want to have excellent stylus support.
HP Pro Slate 8 specs
The Pro Slate 8 sports a 7.9-inch display with 2048×1536 resolution resulting to a sharp 326ppi pixel density. To give you perspective, that screen is precisely the same as the one found on the iPad Mini. It?s powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB RAM. There?s 16GB of built-in storage, microSD card slot for memory expansion, 8MP main camera, 2MP front snapper, and a set of DTS-tuned stereo speakers.
HP Pro Slate 12 specs
This larger model features a 12.3-inch screen covered with protective layers of Gorilla Glass 4, same as the HP Pro Slate 8. However, its resolution suffers as it is only furnished with 1600×1200 resolution which gives it a mediocre pixel density of 163ppi. It?s aspect ratio is 4:3, a rather rare choice compared to the usual 16:9 offered by most Android slates. The Pro Slate 12 is powered by the same Snapdragon 800 chipset found in its smaller brother. Both HP Pro Slate models are running Android 4.4 KitKat and are pre-installed with several HP applications.
Duet Pen and Paper Folio Case
Perhaps the most interesting feature of this HP duo is its ?Duet Pen? stylus. We described this pen as one that can write on ?any? surface because aside from working on the tablets? display it also works as a traditional ink-on-paper pen. But that?s not even the weird part, the Duet Pen works with the optional HP Paper Folio Case so that anything you write on a piece of paper will be transferred digitally to the tablet. Wondering how HP pulled that off? This technology actually uses four microphones on the slated that can detect ultra-high sounds emitted by the Duet Pen.
The company is expected to put these models on sale soon but the exact release date has yet to be divulged. But we do know that the HP Pro Slate 12 will come with a $569 price tag while the Pro Slate 8 will cost you $449 once it hit the shelves.
