How To Add More Features To BBM Messenger For Android Using GBBM Mod

The BlackBerry (BBM) Messenger is the proprietary messaging application by BlackBerry Limited, a Canadian tech firm formerly known as Research In Motion Limited (RIM). At first, it?s only available on the company?s own devices running the BlackBerry OS. In 2013, the Ontario-based device maker finally made it available on other platforms including Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

In itself, the messaging app?s Android version already offers a lot of features to avid BBM Messenger users. However, recently featured a BBM mod that adds more features that are not present in the standard app downloadable from Google Play. Learn more about it below.

GBBM Mod for the BBM Messenger

This modified version is brought to us by a developer who is also an XDA member going by the moniker ?atnfas_hoak.? He named the app ?GBBM? and built it after the latest BBM Messenger version ? Atnfas_hoak regularly updates it and includes more features requested by fellow XDA members. The most recent version is called GBBM v1.15.

New features it will bring

Here are all the unique features that GBBM will offer, according to its developer:

  • GBBM gives you the possibility to backup program Chats and restore them later
  • You can hide the read status “R”
  • Change the conversation bubble shape
  • Change the color of notices icons
  • Change the backgrounds of the gallery
  • Modify the colors and sizes of text
  • Design your own theme design
  • v1.15 adds the first privacy option ?Hide read signal?

How to install the modified GBBM Messenger

You don?t have to do much in order to get this GBBM mod. The download link is available right from this XDA forum thread posted by the developer. Since this application does not come directly from Google Play, you have to sideload it. Doing so requires you to enable the ?Install from unknown sources? option from your Android device?s Settings.
