How To Get Away With Murder ended its third run, answering the season’s mystery: Who killed Wes? And it was a twist that no one saw coming. It turns out Alfred Enoch’s character was murdered by a hit man named Dominic (Nicholas Gonzalez) under the orders of Laurel’s father, Jorge (Esai Morales). While it did resolve the biggest question, the Season 2 finale left one unanswered and that’s about the real motive behind Wes’ murder.
Potential spoilers ahead!
There isn’t much known about Laurel’s father. The last time we saw him was when Laurel (Karla Souza) talked to him to find Frank (Charlie Weber), and that was really it. What we do know from what his daughter revealed in previous episodes is that Jorge is a very controlling man. But why did he want him dead? What exactly does it accomplish to have Wes killed?
It’ll be a while before we know the truth. Some speculations claim it might have been because of Jorge’s disapproval of her daughter’s choices. Perhaps he discovered more about Wes’ background and felt that he’s not good for her. But murder is just a pretty extreme length to go.
Others think Frank might have been the real target and Wes’ surprise visit to Annalise’s house just caught him off guard. However, when the hitman talked to Laurel’s father on the phone, it didn’t feel like he killed the wrong person. Dominic even confirmed that the deed had been done. So, why was Wes killed?
Some folks at Reddit think the Castillos have a connection to the Mahoneys and it might have something to do with Wes’ death. In Mexico, Jorge is a man with power, and so is Wallace Mahoney (Adam Arkin) in the United States. Reddit user boobbolo says Laurel’s dad might have been the person on the other line when Wes confronted Wallace before he was shot to death.
Another Reddit user adds: “Perhaps Laurel’s dad doesn’t know Frank killed Wallace and thinks Wes did and had him killed (because he was the last person he talked to). Wes also had an obviously close relationship with Annalise (Viola Davis) and Mr. Castillo assumed she had him do it, so he framed her for Wes’ murder.” Or, maybe Annalise and Jorge know each other somehow outside of her knowing Laurel?
The theory is missing vital details including the real connection between the two families, but it is actually something worth pondering. After all, this is How To Get Away With Murder we’re talking about. Plus, Dominic was also on the street when Laurel was about to shoot an unsuspecting Charles Mahoney (Wilson Bethel). That doesn’t seem like a coincidence, don’t you think?
We guess that’s part of the How To Get Away With Murder Season 4 journey. Regardless of the real reason, we’re pretty sure of one thing —Laurel’s going to be devastated when she finds out.
How To Get Away With Murder Season 4
The show has already been renewed for another season, so there are no concerns of it returning at all. ABC has yet to announce an exact release date, but based on patterns from previous seasons, it’s likely that Annalise and the Keating Four will be back this fall.
HTGAWM’s first two seasons premiered at the end of September. Season 3, on the other hand, returned in the middle of September. Either way, we can expect the next run to hit our TV screens in mid-late September.
