After yesterday?s release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, could another Harry Potter movie be in the works? The book, actually more a script than a narrative, is written by Jack Thorne, based on an original story by JK Rowling. The release coincides with Harry Potter?s birthday, July 31. The story is set 19 years after we left Harry, Ron and Hermione at Platform 9 ?, as they are sending off their kids to Hogwarts, in the series? 7th installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
In Book 8, we find a grown up Harry, overworked Ministry of Magic employee and father of 3 children: James Sirius, Lily and Albus Severus. As Harry struggles with a past that refuses to stay where it should, his youngest son, Albus, struggles with the weight of the family legacy. Aside from being named after 2 great Hogwarts headmasters, his father, after all, is ?the boy who lived.?
The final chapter
Our favorite hero?s adventure ends here though, according to ABC. At the gala opening of the play in London?s West End theater district, JK Rowling confirmed the end of Harry Potter series, People reports. ?He goes on a very big journey during these 2 plays and then, yeah, I think we?re done … I am thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.?
According to the play?s official website, the play, divided into 2 parts, is meant to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening), or on two consecutive evenings. Tickets to the play are sold out through May 2017, but will have new tickets to be sold starting August 4 for performances through to December 10, 2017.
Harry Potter movie
Could a movie be in the works though? Unfortunately, JK Rowling has tweeted that the final book will not be made into a movie. Five months after the tweet, Warner Brothers filed a trademark for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which covers all eventualities, most notably ?motion picture films featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation, and motion picture films for broadcast on television featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation.? With a trademark secure, we might be expecting another Harry Potter movie in the near future.
Stay tuned for Harry Potter developments in The Bitbag.
