Harley Quinn: Watch This Clip Of Her Origin That Suicide Squad Didn?t Tell

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, was the breakout star of the recently released Suicide Squad movie. While Robbie definitely stole every scene she was in, there?s a part of her origin story that the movie left out.

A clip of her backstory was posted by a Reddit user, and it involves the origin of her relationship with the Joker, played by Jared Leto in the movie. In the three-minute clip, we see Harley as a psychiatrist falling in love with one of her patients, which happens to be the Joker.

Harley found herself sympathizing for the Joker and laughing at his silly stories. She realized over the course of their sessions that the Joker was actually another ?tortured soul crying out for love and acceptance? a lost, injured child trying to make the world laugh with his antics.?

But what?s actually happening is that she?s falling for another one of the Joker?s antics. She was expecting the Joker to do something crazy but instead, he actually opened up about his childhood. Harley, as a psychiatrist, should be used to his patients revealing secrets about their lives. But she didn?t expect it from the Joker. So without realizing that Joker?s stories are actually just a tool to arouse some sympathy in people, Harley gave in and even got obsessed with the Joker?s crazy world.

Furthermore, most Redditors did not like how some people are romanticizing Joker and Harley?s relationship, when in fact, it?s actually abusive. One user, kmnisz1, commented, ?I’ve seen ton of people on Twitter say they?re ?relationship goals.? Others say they want a ?Harley Quinn to their Joker,? vice-versa. Called a few out on it, and their response almost 100% of the time is that it’s just a movie, it’s fiction so I should calm down. The film really romanticized their relationship at parts. There?s a scene of the Joker slapping Harley that they shot but it was taken out because test audiences didn’t like it. Didn?t feel romantic.?

‘Tango With Evil’ cover art featuring Harley Quinn and the Joker by Alex Ross

Meanwhile, Suicide Squad didn?t get much rave reviews, according to some fans, one scene actually made the movie worth watching. The scene was between Harley and the Joker, which was a beautiful homage to Alex Ross? classic ?Tango With Evil? cover art. The scene was even declared by some fans as the best part of the entire movie.

MTV writes that the scene highlighted Harley?s tragic obsession and psychological abuse by the Joker, as it showed one fleeting moment of happiness between the two troubled villains.

What do you think about Harley Quinn and the Joker?s origin story? Do you want a Suicide Squad spinoff featuring the two villains? Robbie and Leto definitely want one, and surely, more about the two baddies? relationship will be explored when and if that happens.
