Halo 5: Guardians didn?t do well in terms of sales, and even Microsoft admits this fact. Now that the company is set to release Halo Wars 2, it seems that Microsoft is not very hopeful with the game. However, the company has managed to build hype for the upcoming title, but its release date has raised many questions.
Microsoft was expected to launch Halo Wars 2 during the holiday season, but the company surprised everyone by confirming a February release date. At E3 2016, Microsoft announced that the game will not hit shelves any time before next year. During a recent interview, Microsoft Studios? Aaron Greenberg told DualShockers that the company did not want to launch the game with the other big releases.
Greenberg said that there?s so much big name titles coming out this holiday season. Games such as Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, ReCore and other games are coming out. As a game publisher, Microsoft evaluates all the games and finalizes their release schedule.
?To have Halo Wars 2 in February was a very deliberate decision about when that title made sense,? said Greenberg during the interview.
The company previously said that the sales figures from the Halo 5 were not good. The game didn?t reach its revenue goals, and it was certainly disappointed the company. Microsoft has already said that it has some great titles coming this year, and the company doesn?t want to force any game into the predetermined lineup of titles.
However, Greenberg also said that releasing a game also depends on whether the title and the players are ready for each other. It doesn?t seem like there?s a lot of work left to be done for Halo Wars 2, as the company has already hosted a beta session. It seems that Microsoft is playing a safe card by releasing the game in February, because there will be few big titles releasing in that month. The game might be challenged by other big titles such as Mass Effect Andromeda and other upcoming titles that will see an early 2017 launch.
