Gordon Freeman and Glados are still on track to make an appearance on the big screen. In a recent interview with IGN, Star Wars director JJ Abrams confirmed that the Half Life and Portal movies he announced with Valve head honcho Gabe Newell years ago are still in the works, but declined to give any specifics or release timetable.
Half Life Movie Still in the Works
“Not yet, but they’re in development,” Said Abrams. “And we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update.”
Abrams and Newell announced their partnership way back at the 2013 Dice Summit. Since then, it?s safe to say that a lot has happened in the 49 year-old filmmaker?s career. Aside from his role as one of the main overseers of the Star Wars franchise, Abrams is also busy with his Bad Robot production company.
The studio just released its latest work, the sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, to rave reviews from critics and fans. IGN notes that, coincidentally, the man behind the film — first-time director Dan Trachtenberg — burst onto the Hollywood scene by making a fan-made Portal film titled Portal: No Escape.
Is he being groomed by Abrams to one day take the director?s chair for these Valve movie adaptations? Only time will tell. Not much is known about the possible plot for either film at the moment. Whether the Half-Life movie will follow the storyline of the two major entries remains a mystery at the moment. ?
