Many might be thinking that the hype for Half Life 3 is long gone as fans have been waiting for the game for eight years already and it doesn?t seem like it will see the light of day. Half Life 3, however, is now trending on Reddit after a HL3?hint was found inside a hidden Dota 2 update file. Here?s how big the discovery is to make Half Life 3 trending again.

Half Life 3 Features?

Several HL3?hints were found inside the latest update of Dota 2 Reborn and the file itself is even labeled ?hl3.txt?, Ars Technica reported. The discovery of the HL3 reference, however, isn?t the only reason why gamers are stoked about the game.? Several features of the game as well as references to Half Life were found and these are some of the interesting finds inside the file:

  • Combine Pulse Ceiling Turret
  • Procedural generation
  • Zip lines
  • VR movement
  • Squad
  • Neutral to Combine and [don?t] take damage
  • VR chaperone
  • Invincible Hunter

The fact that Half Life 2 Episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger has made fans think that a sequel would be made. Valve, however, is well-known for trolling its fans throughout the years since 2007 when HL2 released. If you are still hopeful that HL3 will be made, then these statements from Valve Co-Founder Gabe Newell will help you keep your hopes up:

?I?m a fan of TV shows, I?m a fan of writers, I?m a fan of movies, I?m a fan of games. I certainly understand why people are like ?Hey, I remember this awesome experience and I?m starting to get worried that I?m never going to get to have it again.? I?m a fan of Terry Pratchett and he has Alzheimer?s and it?s like ?Oh my god, I may never get another great Discworld novel.?

?The only reason we?d go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]. But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we?ve learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice.?

?We think at the end of the day customers are going to be really happy with where we spent our time and how we?ve turned that into entertainment for them. But we?re also going to build on what we?ve learned? and we?ve learned a lot. We?re not going all retro because there are too many interesting things that have been learned.?
