If there?s anything people love about?Hairspray?besides John Travolta, it just has to be Velma Von Tussle. Not that people approve of her snobbish/racist role in the musical, but you can?t just look away when Velma performs. And it?s one of the many great reasons why people looked forward to?Hairspray Live!
Who would forget how seductive Michelle Pfeiffer was when she performed?Big, Blond and Beautiful? From that moment, people thought nobody could ever do Velma?s character as good as Pfeiffer. But somebody had to do the part, and she definitely did not disappoint.
Who?s Velma Von Tussle?
Let?s just take a moment and remind those people who are having amnesia and totally forgot about Velma Von Tussle. She?s the producer of the?Corny Collins Show,?who attempts to remove ?Negro Day? from the show.
She?s also Amber?s stage-mom, who wants all the spotlight on her beautiful daughter. Velma?s basically known for discriminating, insulting, and making life extra hard for the African-Americans and Tracy Turnblad (the lead character.) So yeah, one would definitely have love and hate moments towards her character.
Kristin Chenoweth as Velma in Hairspray Live!
People have seen (and loved) her as April Rhodes from?Glee.?She was the Sugar Plum Fairy from?Strange Magic.?She had countless roles in theatre, film, and television, and even won several awards for them.?
She?s none other than Kristin Chenoweth! And she?s now taking the?Hairspray Live!?Stage as Velma Von Tussle, and she?s killing it!?
It?s safe to assume that 99% of those who watched?Hairspray Live!?Was deeply astonished of Kristin Chenoweth?s performance. Even Ariana Grande (as Penny Pingleton) revealed how she?s in so much awe being around Chenoweth. And just so you know, Chenoweth feels the same way about Ariana.
Kristin Chenoweth?s performance of ?Miss Baltimore Crabs? gave us ultimate flashbacks of the film, and she just did it so amazingly. In fact, people might have gotten confused who the lead character was when she did her solo number.
People just can?t deny how perfectly fit Kristin Chenoweth is for the role of Velma Von Tussle. Her version of ?Miss Baltimore Crabs? made it seem like she was born to be Velma, especially with what she wore on?Hairspray Live!
