After 13 years of marriage, pop star Gwen Stefani filed for divorce against her husband, Gavin Rossdale.
The couple, admired for their strong marriage bond and for keeping their private lives from the hungry eyes of the media, decided to call it quits due to ?irreconcilable differences.?
According to Billboard, Stefani requested joint custody for the couple’s three kids: 9-year-old Kingston, 6-year-old Zuma and 1-year-old Apollo. Rossdale filed a response concurrently and is also asking for joint custody.
“While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” Stefani and Rossdale?said in a joint statement to press.?”To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.”

Many were definitely surprised with the outcome of the couple?s marriage, but many also speculated that Stefani?s lagging career may have something to do with it. The artist, who broke out in mainstream entertainment during the late ?90s, hasn?t been enjoying much limelight before.
It has been almost a decade since Stefani last came out with The Great Escape album, and hasn?t exactly produced anything new since then. Much of it has something to do with the Harajuku movement that flourished during the period ? an act which Gwen thinks is no longer appropriate.
“I wasn’t gonna bring back the Harajuku Girls,” Stefani told Rolling Stone?last year, referring to her former Japanese backup dancers. “You kind of run out of ideas. After a while, you’re just competing with yourself.”
It was also speculated that Stefani?s last pregnancy and birthing has also taken a toll on the singer who was made famous for singles like Don?t Speak, Cool, and Hollaback Girl.
The artist has slowly come back since, along with a new and strong desire to make a new record. She recently enlisted fellow Voice star Pharrell Williams to record two songs: Shine and Start a War.
Stefani and Rossdale remain good friends after this divorce.
