One of Marvel?s biggest film in 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, is picking steam as actors and actresses are now being tapped to prep for production. It has now been reported that an acclaimed actor has recently rejected Marvel?s offer to be a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 cast.
According to IGN, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey rejected Marvel?s offer for him to take on a villainous role. Marvel is continuing to find the right actor for the role and the decision will be made in the coming weeks, the report said. It is not yet known which character McConaughey was asked to portray.
Gearing Towards DC?
Matthew McConaughey revealed in May this year that he was having ?secret talks with Marvel?, Variety reported. McConaughey also revealed reading scripts from two rival comicbook makers, Marvel and DC.
?I?ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I?ve talked about working with then on some scripts, none of which I?ll share with with you what they are— or were,? he told Variety. When he was asked by Variety what will convince him to join any of the two films, he factored-in success as a big decision maker:
?It?s very simple for me. I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it exciting? Sure. Is it the possibility of going, ?Hey you can get on a train and it can be a franchise and you could do 3,4,5 and have a great time as some kind of superhero or anti-hero.?
?But I would also look at something like that and say, ?Hey, in success that means you are on the train for a while.? Contractually, you?re going to return to the character over and over. It?s something I asked myself is it something I?d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again? Going and doing the press tour with that group of people again? I always ask myself those questions again. It starts with the story and character.?
Pom Klementieff was earlier reported to be one of the new key cast members in GOTG Volume 2, however, it has not yet been confirmed who she will play as. According to Deadline, a source has told them that Klementieff will take on the role of Mantis, a character who has ties with Thanos. Mantis has been a reluctant member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics, Screen Rant reported.
