Marvel Studios released new footage of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday and it reveals that the second movie installment is funnier than the first one.

The exclusive sneak peek of the continuing adventures of the misfit guardians begin with the Ravagers having captured Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Yondu (Michael Rooker). They plan to deliver them to the Kree in the morning. Also, they have managed to capture Baby Groot who is locked away in a birdcage, and when one of the Ravagers wanted to kill Groot, the leader says that he is too adorable to kill.

Later, while everyone is asleep, Baby Groot manages to find his way back to Rocket and Yondu’s cell, and they put the little guy on an important mission. Yondu explains that there is a prototype head fin locked away in the captain’s quarters, and that they need it in order to escape.

This is where the fun begins as Baby Groot doesn’t quite understand what this means, and as a result repeatedly fetches the wrong things. After a hilarious montage that sees him coming back with Yondu’s underwear, a toe, a mechanical eye (that Rocket actually wants to keep, thinking it will be funny), and a desk, the little Groot eventually does find the prototype fin.

Now, Yondu once again has the ability to control his special arrow with a whistle and after escaping from the cell with Rocket, he begins to take a sweet, sweet revenge against the Ravagers. All the three heroes casually stroll in slow motion through the ship, with Yondu whistling and basically killing everyone in sight, bodies falling down at every angle through the depths of the space vessel. Even little Groot chases one Ravager down, tripping him up with his arms which he grows out to a distance, and then throwing him off a railing.

Another scene with a funny banter is when Star Lord learns about his father. Peter learns Kurt Russell?s character Ego – The Living Planet is his father, who has immense powers and ability to transform into human form.

?Who are you?? asks Quill a.k.a Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in the footage. ?I thought it would be obvious with my rugged good looks,? quips Russell.

Russell explains to Quill that before he was born, Ego took human form and met Quill?s mother. Drax questions if Ego?s human form includes a penis, to which Ego replies: ?Yes, Drax. I do have a penis. A pretty good one too.?

The official plot description of the movie reads as follows: ?Set to the backdrop of ?Awesome Mixtape #2,? Marvel?s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team?s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill?s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes? aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on May 5, 2017.
