After Sony Entertainment announced during its E3 2014 press conference that the premastered Grim Fandango game will come to the PS4 and PS Vita, everyone is wondering whether developer Double Fine will also carry it over to other consoles. Well, the wondering stops now ? read on.
Double Fine has taken it to Twitter to reveal their plans. The developer said that a PC, Mac, and Linux version of the updated Grim Fandango will also come. Their exact words were:
“Reap your heart out! We’re pleased to announce Grim Fandango will also be available on PC, Mac, and Linux alongside PlayStation 4 and Vita!”
Nevertheless, let?s not expect that Grim Fandango will land on any other gaming platform or console like the Nintendo Wii U or Xbox One. Sony?s Director of Third-Party Production, Gio Corsi, mentioned that the remastered version will be a PlayStation-exclusive. His tweet reads, “Hey gang, #GrimFandango is a #PlayStation console exclusive for #PS4 & #Vita! We are really excited! #Good2BGrim.”
Grim Fandango, released by LucasArts back in 1998 for the Windows PC, is a dark comedy adventure game. The development team behind the game is led by Tim Schafer. It is LucasArts? first game to utilize 3D graphics placed on top of static, pre-rendered backgrounds. Similar to other LucasArts games at the time, Grim Fandango players need to interact with other characters and observe, collect, and use objects properly in order to solve puzzles and advance to the next level. In spite of enjoying popular reception, the game was never re-released. This left many fans scrambling and resort to piracy and third-party software just to play the old game.
In fairness to Schafer, Grim Fandango?s cessation was not because of poor effort on his part. When asked about the topic at the website Reddit two years ago, Schafer replied, “So far, no. I have not been able to. They’re busy with the whole space thing they do. With the laser swords and teddy bear monkeys, you know?”
The remastered version has not been given an exact release date, but Double Fine reassures fans that the game will be launched simultaneously on all the gaming platforms mentioned. And if you feel like you need to reminisce, here is the original Grim Fandango trailer shown back in 1998.
