It?s official now, Google is replacing its Nexus line of high end smartphone with their all new Pixel flagship series. Though numerous Google Pixel (Sailfish) and Pixel XL (Marlin) leaks have surfaced over the internet, it?s time to check the official ones.
Google Pixel Launch
Reports have pegged October 24 as the official unveiling of Google Pixel. Google released a new YouTube video specifically teasing the event. The company will livestream the event on YouTube as well, and they are already promoting the mobile event across social media platforms.
Though the video is a bit cryptic, the likely indication is that the Google Pixel will finally see daylight. Moreover, Google has also put up a madeby.google.com site which pretty much confirms a new phone in the making.
Google Pixel Price
BGR has cited reliable sources to confirm the Google Pixel is starting at USD$649. That?s the price for the smaller Sailfish model. The bigger phablet Pixel XL is likely expected to cost more than $649. Rumors had earlier pegged Pixel XL for $649 but it appears that is not the case anymore.
That makes Pixel?s pricing similar to Apple?s iPhone 7 as the 32GB variant is priced as much. However, there will be Pixel financing options available from Google, although details are not yet available. Google will also offer accidental damage coverage plus another year of warranty for both phones, priced at $99 (Pixel) and $119 (Pixel XL).
Google Pixel Leaks & Features
Android Police lately leaked the images of Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Though not official images, they indeed seem genuine. The Pixel and Pixel XL, thought to be 5 inches and 5.5 inches respectively, were shown side by side.
The pictures appear similar to a Pixel phone that appeared in a NEXT advertisement. The phone has a metallic design and is quite similar to the iPhone design with antenna lines. Aside from the design, the other features remain elusive for now.
Rumors, however, indicate that the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor will be powering the Pixel series. Some say the Pixel phone will boast quad-core Qualcomm processors, 4GB of RAM and 12-megapixel cameras. High end AMOLED touchscreens, minimum 32GB storage and USB Type-C port have been indicated.
