Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch revealed during the first day of Google I/O 2014

At the first day of the Google I/O 2014 developer conference, Google has unveiled the features of two smartwatches powered by their much talked about Android Wear OS. The specifications of both the square-shaped Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch have been made public, while the round-shaped Moto 360?s specs have yet to be revealed.

For Samsung?s part, it?s interesting to note that they?ve decided to launch an Android Wear-powered smartwatch. This is because the South Korean giant has recently switched to use its home-grown Tizen OS for the Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch models.

Speaking about the LG G Watch, prior to the Google I/O announcement all we know about it is that it will be dust and water resistant. We also knew that it will be furnished with a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor. But now, along with Google?s revelation, LG has also updated its website to accommodate the new LG G Watch. The wearable device has a 1.65-inch, 280×280 resolution, 240 ppi display. The smartwatch sports 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage, Bluetooth version 4.0 and 400 mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the second smart wearable running Android Wear OS to be announced is the Samsung Gear Live. It has similar specs to the new LG smartwatch including its Snapdragon processor, 4 GB of NAND, 512 MB RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, along with water and dust resistant features. However, what distinguishes it from the LG G Watch is its crisper display ? Samsung?s latest smartwatch boasts of a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED, 320×320 resolution display resulting to a vivid 227 ppi pixel density. Its battery is less powerful though at 300 mAh, but the likely reason for this is the device?s AMOLED display which requires less battery consumption.
