MVM Entertainment just made another new license announcement. They just confirmed that they acquired the God Eater anime series for the home video release in the U.K. The series will come on both Blu-ray and DVD by 2017. However, there are no official dates yet on the precise release date at this time.

From Video Game to TV Series

For those unfamiliar with God Eater, it’s an anime adaptation of the God Eater video game series. It was animated by Ufotable and started airing on July 12, 2015. It is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in 2071. At this time the world has been massively destroyed by monsters called the Aragami.

The organization Fenrir was created in order to exterminate Aragami through the use of ‘God Arcs’ which are weapons that were made from Aragami cells. Those whose specialization is exterminating Aragami are called God Eaters. The God Arcs could initially just keep a single form. However, there was a new type that’s been discovered that can change from gun to blade form. After this, they have been classified as new types and old types, per Wikipedia.

Scheduled Broadcast

There was a 24-minute prequel video animation created by Ufotable that was aired on September 28, 2009. Later it animated a TV series that was directed by Takayuki Hirao with Keita Shimizu making the character designs. The anime is part of their franchise’s 5th anniversary. It started airing on July 12, 2015 on Tokyo MX, BS 11 and other stations after the first episode was delayed by one week because of production issues. Because of this, a short titled God Eater Extra took its place.

There were four extra episodes that preempted the regular episodes that were scheduled. After airing the ninth episode, the remaining episodes aired in March 2016. The opening song was ?Feed A? by Oldcodex and the ending song was ?Ruined Land.? It was performed by Go Shiina and featured Naomi. Unlike other series that uses computer graphics, Ufotable uses hand-drawn animation for animating the God Arc weapons.
