Wolverine isn?t the only mutant from X-Men that will star in a solo film as 20th Century Fox will be making a Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum. Gambit has yet to be a mainstream popular comic book character, hence, a reason why the Magic Mike star might has been casted as the eponymous Cajun. But it seems that Tatum?s star power isn?t the only reason for him to be casted as he might also be bringing his flair from Magic Mike XXL.
Gambit movie producer Simon Kinberg told Collider that the film will feel different from X-Men movies. Kinberg even likened the difference to the upcoming Deadpool movie which is rife with violence, sexual references, and an antithetical tone.
?The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.?
Kinberg saying that the film will be heist movie makes sense seeing as Gambit isn?t an ordinary superhero. The ?sexy thriller? statement, however, is a bit unsettling especially when you remember that Tatum played as a male stripper in Magic Mike. Will Tatum possibly perform things like these in the Gambit movie? (NSFW)
A new release date for the Gambit movie has yet to be announced as the film will no longer release on October 7, 2016. Also, a new director for the film remains to be named as the change in schedule forced Rupert Wyatt to abandon the film as he will be busy working on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. According to EW, Doug Liman, the man who helmed Edge of Tomorrow, is reportedly in talks to direct the movie.
